Note: This was a blog I started several weeks ago when we had alot of sickness going on...I never got it finished/posted so I am catching up now...feel free to skip as it is not exciting, I just wanted to post so it would be included in our documentation.
Down with the sickness….
Down with the sickness….
The last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind of sickness (all 4 of
us) and a TON on missed work. It all
started on May 13 when I was not feeling well.
I had a horrible headache all day at work. In general, I just felt run down and figured
it was all the running and lack of sleep catching up with me. I woke up that Tuesday still feeling
cummy and N talked me into staying home
from work. I never EVER stay home from
work for me. All my days are used for my
kids so I can’t afford to take off for myself too so I usually always work
through sickness. When I picked up the
girls from school P was very hot! I
thought it was just being from outside but it felt more hot than normal so I
took her temp when we got home and it was 102.5. Wow!
My kids never have a fever so this concerned me. She still acted pretty normal and all, but I
could see that she was not feeling well.
Wednesday morning she still had fever so I decided to keep her home
(even though she was acting fine and playing like normal). I called the Dr. to get her in and they said
since she just had fever to watch her and as long as she is still eating,
drinking, acting fine, etc. she can have a fever for up to 3 days before they
get concerned. But, if anything changes
to let them know. She would cough here
and there but nothing alarming and I did give her a treatment or two.
That night, I had told N to go ahead and work late (because if she was still sick the next day he was having to stay home with her since I had to get back to school for our field trip). I had given her Tylenol that morning and her temp went down to about 98-99 throughout the rest of the day. She did take a nap on me but played like normal the rest of the day. That night I was feeding both girls at the table and decided to check P’s temp again since she felt pretty warm. I was alarmed when I read 104.7!!! I thought there was no way so I took it again on the other side. 103.9. I kept doing it getting the same numbers on each side. I freaked out! She could have had a seizure but thank goodness she didn’t! I quickly put B in the swing so I could put P in the bathtub. I gave her some Tylenol and tried to get her temp. down some. I called N to come home since I was so worried about her. She has never really even had a fever before and now it was dangerously high! She let me hold her on the couch and just layed in my arms—she never does this!

When N got home she still had a fever although we had gotten
it down some. We decided to call the
after hours on call Dr. He said to watch her and since we had it down a little and she was sleeping to just keep an eye on her and if it gets any worse to take her to ER. Otherwise, they wanted us at the clinic at 8 am and someone would see her.
N took her in early the next morning and after running some tests, x-rays, etc. they confirmed she had pneumonia...her 2nd time already! Poor babe! She got a steroid shot, oral antibiotics, and breathing treatments.
By the time I got home from work she was running around like nothing. We kept her home again on Friday so she could recover and get her immunity back up.
We had a good weekend and cleaned and disinfected everything to try and get us all well.
Monday I was not feeling well again. I decided to head to the Dr...they diagnosed my with a bad sinus infection, and I am pretty sure to this day it was not that but I treated it as so anyways. I felt horrible that night and had a climbing temp. that night too. I woke up and stayed home from work feeling horrible. N was feeling bad too so he stopped at the Dr. on the way to work to stay on top of it and not get to feeling as bad as I was.
The Dr. did some tests on him, treated him with RX, and told him to head back home and stay there until Thursday (it was Tuesday).
It was a rough few days taking care of kids and usual household duties with both Mom and Dad out of commission but we all survived!!!
THe day I stayed home from work I noticed some spots on B's tummy. I just chalked it up to her eczema as it had been pretty flared up lately. Later, her school called me telling me about some spots all over her. I, again, chalked it up her eczema. When I got her home I noticed it was covering her. They were not raised bumps, they were just coloring the skin. N ended up taking her into the Dr. the next morning (while he was supposed to be staying home recovering (per the Dr.)) and they were a little puzzled by it. They were not sure if it was her eczema "exploding" or some sort of the same virus we were all passing around. They gave her a prescription cream to apply and told us to watch her. We also traced back a few days to think about everything I ate that could have affected her since she is still nursing.
It did end up clearing up and has since not reappeared. We are pretty sure at this point it was a little touch of a virus that made her break out.
Now, several weeks later we have all been well and are all good!
