On Friday, March 13 I headed back to the Dr. for a (squeeze in) weekly appt. I say that because my Dr. put me in the schedule since I never made an appt for that week being sure the baby would have been here on or before my due date. I had been given March 12 originally for my due date but the 20 week US dated me at March 10. Either way I was OVER-DUE! :) I had moved to a 3 that morning at my 8:45 appt. (I had stayed at 2.5 cm for the past several weeks). Everything still looked good. I never had any swelling, BP stayed great, etc. She did not want me to go past 41 weeks so she went over a few options with us and we were to think about it and let her know. We spent the rest of the day shopping (ie,,,LOTS of walking trying to make this baby come!) and we enjoyed a nice lunch out hoping it would be our LAST kid free one for a while! :)
We headed home that afternoon, picked up the girls, got supper and went home about our normal evening routine! We got the girls to bed and I started working on school stuff. I submitted a book order, went over all grades in gradebook, made sure all bills were paid, etc. I finally crawled into bed around 11. I dozed off and woke up shortly after with contractions. I started timing them and they were coming every 2 1/2 minutes and lasting for 45 sec-1 min. I have NEVER had that contraction pattern they tell you to look for to come in to hospital--the whole 5 minutes apart thing, yeah...NO!
We called my mom and she was literally over here in 10 minutes to stay with the girls so we could go to hospital. I got up to get ready to leave. N was just getting out of shower and had not even gotten to bed. We never even called the hospital until we got on the road as the contractions were so fast. The long drive (for the second time that day :)) was NOT pleasant. The contractions were fast and furious. We left the house at 1 am and arrived at the hospital right around 2:15. (There was tons of road construction on the way and we flew past at least 15 cops with our flashers on and speeding!) We got in the room, changed, and settled. They checked me and I was already at 6 cm. I was not certain that I wanted an epidural this go round. I was going to try and tough it out but since it was all happening so fast and furious the pain was INTENSE! I opted to get one then because they told me it was now or never...I was going to be out of time. They were right! It wasnt even 30 minutes after epidural and it was time to push!!! They checked me one more time and I was 10 cm dilated!! They called my Dr. (who was on call that night woohoo!) and she came in. We pushed through 3 contractions...basically 9 pushes and out came a baby BOY!!!! I was shocked! He was perfect and healthy. N said he was blue when he came out but then finally let out a cry and all was well! They weighed him and stuff and while my 2nd degree tears were being stitched up we did lots of skin to skin. He was calm and so sweet! I have a new man in my life now! :):) And a super handsome one at that! :)
