6 month check-up

Oh man…I am SOO behind! That is the motto of our life lately…so many crazy things going on but I will try to get us caught up. Little Miss had her 6 month check-up like 3 weeks ago already but here is the update:
She weighed in at 14 lbs 15 oz. and was 25 ¾ in. long. Her head has grown and we are no longer concerned….it is going up on her growth chart just fine, she is just going to have a little head. J
She was already sitting up like a pro at her appt. And the Dr. was impressed. She is also grabbing and picking up things so she is just developing right along. J
We discussed food and she said everything I was doing was great and to keep it up. She gets a fruit or veggie in the a.m. and then a veggie again for supper. She still takes 5-6 oz bottles throughout the day. We practice with the sippy cup and a little bit of water during her evening meal.
We had a long talk about her skin…it started breaking out and having red patches when we had an appt. before. Dr. asked if we had switched anything at home and we hadn’t. She told us to maybe switch body washes during her bath to completely un-scented and make sure we were putting lotion on her every night (which I have done since she was born). We had been using an all-natural body wash and lotion and had run out so just used a regular baby wash we had from a shower (well her skin did not like whatever nasty chemicals is in that). We bought some other ones at Whole Foods that contain NO scents, chemicals, etc. (she said a lot of baby washes contain lavender and to make sure it does not even have that in it).
Well at her 6 month appt. her skin had been getting worse. I had even been taking pics. on my phone to show her bad it was some days. She said it was not a skin disease or a skin infection, but it just looked like she is a baby developing EXTREMELY sensitive skin. She said it looks like something is irritating her and her skin is really dry. It was real red in patches and real pimply in patches. I told her the body wash/lotion we had switched to and she had heard of it and said that was a great choice. She also suggested speaking with the day-care to see what they wash the sheets, etc. in to see if that might be irritating her skin. Well I spoke with the day-care and was shocked at what they used to wash the sheets, etc. so we made the decision to provide our own sheets for P’s bed at school and to send our own bibs (where we can control what they are washed in) back and forth to school every day. We were willing to try anything to see if it would help clear up her skin. The Dr. also suggested that the detergents other people use in their own homes (like her teachers) could be irritating her skin when they hold her—her skin just seems to be developing that sensitive.
We have been sending our own things now for 3 weeks and her skin is soooo much better! We guess the detergent they use is just too Harsh for her sensitive skin. She no longer has the pimples, but her legs just stay really dry—we just moisturize her body as much as possible and we seem to have it all under control. Glad we figured out the issue. J
Overall, baby girl is doing great and continues to be sooo HAPPY and bring such joy to our lives!! J
