Lilypie Second Birthday tickers Lilypie First Birthday tickers

Sunday morning (bright and early) was a first for Mommy.  We (I ) will be making all of P’s baby food.  This is to ensure no preservatives/chemicals are in what she will be taking in (if you know her Daddy you will get this).  Yes, we know there are all natural and organic baby foods that do meet these criteria but we have chosen to take this route for now.  In the event that something happens and we are not able to keep up (because it is a TON of work—it took me all day (with a baby in the mix)- and I am still packaging frozen cubes up today) then we know there are perfectly fine healthy baby foods out there & we are OK with having to use them.
We went to Whole Foods Friday evening and stocked up on fresh, organic produce.  We got sweet potatoes, squash, zucchini, pears, apples. I did use bags of frozen organic peas and green beans (as I was afraid of missing some dirt or something if I had to wash each tiny piece).  We will venture out and try more fun things soon—just wanted to start with these basics.  AND carrots cannot be home prepared (due to some sort of pesticide problems where carrots come to us from) so we did have to buy jars of those at Whole Foods and will be starting with those next week (so hard to believe she will be 6 months—she really will be 6 months on the 19th and I was hoping to get her 6 month appt. during Spring break so I would not have to take off again.  Our Dr. will be out on Spring Break so her appt. will be after she has turned 6 months.  I am making the executive mommy decision to start foods next week (one week early) since I will be home on SB and can monitor her, etc.  She already gets rice cereal and oatmeal daily and has done GREAT with these—this girl loves her food!!!  AND is soo ready to move on to bigger and better things. J
This was everything we bought:

These are the finished products—I steamed everything and then blended.  I had several steamers and blenders going, but had to do a lot of washing and cleaning in between as I did not want anything to touch, have any residue, etc. in case she does have an allergy to one of the foods.

Here are a few of the freezer ready meals.  All I have to do is choose the fruits/veggies for the day, pop a few into her food containers, then they are defrosted and ready for her to eat at school.

I am a good mom (:)) and DID taste each to know what she will be eating.  The sweet potatoes & apples were very good.  Taste like sweet potatoes and apples.  The peas, green beans, squash, & zucchini were very blah and a little more grainy.
Even with the busy Sunday we had (Daddy was making hamburger meat all day while I stayed home and made baby food) we managed to squeeze in a little time for a family walk since it was such a beautiful day & Daddy even got her Jenny Jump-Up hung for her.  She loves it!!! :)
